Fourth of July

We headed to Deer Park just north of us to enjoy the fireworks show. We found a little side street right near the field where they would be letting off the fireworks and parked there for the night. We took out one bench from our mini-van and turned the other one around and opened up the back. We played games and downed chips, cookies, and soda, and waited for night to come. The fireworks started around 10 pm and they were super loud! All the girls hated it (including myself) and the boys couldn't care less (including Andrew). So Doug closed the door on us (he stayed outside) and Andrew laid peacefully in my arms just staring at the lights. I was really thankful that door was closed. At one point a firework shot out instead of up and went right into a tree less than a hundred feet away from us. Nobody was hurt, but that certainly didn't settle any nerves inside the car.

How can I resist this face?

To allay some of the nerves I had the girls clap after each firework.

Beautiful pictures, Anna! We miss you guys.

Tonight a group from my class is leading the entire service. It has been so neat to see them plan it from beginning to end without any help from me! They have invited Rosimeiry and me to come early to pray with them before the service. It's going to be down at the fire pit so it'll be a little different for everyone and I'm excited to see how God has lead them to carry it out. Last week we also had a completely indigenous meeting and I think everyone left marveling at the variety that God has created. It is neat to be able to strip biblical teaching down to the essence and principles and remove the cultural baggage that hinder us so many times in understanding what God wants us to really learn. I just really love teaching.

Anyway, I personally would love to hear you play again. Remember when we played and sang over the phone to Sunny? ;-)

Love,
Aimee

Hi, Aimee. It is so good to hear from you; I've been wondering how you guys are doing and we have been praying for you. We got your card in the mail. I was curious about who mailed the cards since I noticed an Oakland, CA postal mark on there.

I do remember singing and playing over the phone to Sunny. Oh, that was such a wonderful visit! It is hard to believe it has been three years since we've seen you.

Glad to hear that you are seeing some good fruit from the teaching and that you were able to have a completely indigenous meeting. Are you gearing up for the last quarter or are you already in the middle of it?

We miss you and think of you often.

Love,
Anna

Hi Anna,

We did it over the internet with shutterfly.com. It's so hard to find cards here and so we decided to try this route and it is quite nice. You can personalize each card. I read about it in a Christmas edition good housekeeping someone lent me. Most of the pictures on the card were taken by Andrew's dad when he was here a few weeks ago, so that was nice too.

We're in the 4th week of 6 weeks of the 3rd quarter and then there are ministry trips and then the last quarter. Today I had another really good class. I think it was a lesson from God not to give up when things get tough. 2 students confessed in class that when they started my course last quarter, they really hated it and wanted to drop out but they said it was because it was speaking to heart issues that they knew were wrong in their lives and when they finally gave in to the Holy Spirit and admitted their sin of false worship, they said they really started to grow. Last quarter I had them doing a lot of soul searching type questions about false and vain worship. So today they asked our forgiveness for the bad attitudes and they said that last night, the service they planned and carried is now one of the highlights of their time here. Rosimeiry and I told them that we had seen that they were struggling and all of us were constantly praying for them. What we didn't tell them is that we felt often like complete failures as teachers and so many times we felt like giving up. Often we felt embarrassed after class because of the way some of the students treated us with disrespect but I think the material was really messing with their hearts. Anyway, I've really rambled on! ;-)

Love,
Aimee
