Goodbye, Grandma

Mary Ellen Taylor
November 4, 1919 - August 2, 2008

My dear Grandma passed away this morning around 11:15 am. She was a great woman with such a fighting spirit. I could tell many stories to demonstrate this, but I will list just a few highlights. She graduated from college in her fifties. She was the craftiest woman I've ever known with sewing, crocheting, cooking, baking, cake decorating, porcelain doll making, fishing - just to name a few. She was a good, faithful wife who really appreciated a true friendship with her husband in spite of difficulties along the way. After my grandfather died, while she was in her eighties, she did exactly what she always planned to do: she moved away from San Diego (she had lived in that county her entire life) and made an entirely new life in Port Orford, Oregon. As far as I know she did it with no regrets, no looking back. I only saw her about once a year throughout my life, but she was very special to me all the same. The last conversation we had before I went to Peru she said, "Well, I probably won't see you again since I will probably die while you are gone." She was always quite frank. She was right; if I had been in Peru for as long as we had planned I wouldn't have seen her again. But in God's grace, I saw her twice last year. One of our last conversations was about her growing faith in Christ and how she was learning to forgive. She was truly enjoying a full life in Him. The last time I saw her, she had slowed down a lot. And then the news came just last week that she had liver cancer. She did not suffer long and my aunt was by her side these past few days faithfully telling her of the love that each family member had for her. Now my grandma is with her Lord, at peace, but still not complete. I look forward to that day when we are both resurrected and will have many conversations to come.
Love you, Grandma!

Anna- Our prayers are with you and your family. She seemed like such a dear and sweet lady. Please don't worry about music camp if you have to go to a funeral this week. May God give you comfort and peace.

We'll be praying for your family, Anna. I'm looking forward to spending time with your sweet kids this week... but let me know if things change. God is good, and I pray that you rest in His sovereignty this week.
