The Blessing of Meals

One of the ways in which we have been greatly blessed this past year has been through the provision of meals.

While I was pregnant with Andrew, I received a meal a month provided by various ladies in our church. For those of you acquainted with my pregnant ways, you know that I am pretty much a disaster about meal preparation during my pregnancies. With this last pregnancy, it was such a blessing to have that meal a month which often times ended up providing enough food for two dinners and a lunch besides. Those were the weeks I was able to keep up better on housework.

After having Andrew, our church provided meals four times a week for the first four weeks. Thanks to the leftovers from these meals, I didn't prepare a dinner meal until Andrew was four weeks old. The key here was a coordinator. I did no work except opening the door and inviting in those bringing the meals. On top of this, one of the single men from our church came one day during this initial four week period and made us a meal at our home. It was fun. He and Doug got to visit, he brought all the ingredients and his own cooking utensils(!), and then left all the leftovers for us to enjoy. In addition, the mother of one of Annalisa's classmates sent home a meal. Since we were well taken care of with meals by our church family, I was able to pop this one in the freezer, and the first week back to cooking, I was able to have a couple days of relief thanks to this one meal.

Now it is my turn to start blessing others in our church with meals. I have to admit, I am not so confident about this, but it is a good way to be stretched and I look forward to blessing others in this way.
